Vintage Hard Dance Mix, Coming This Weekend!

In addition to the absolutely solid mixes by Mr Hyde the last several weeks (well done Laurence!), my next offering will offer a little bit of a change up. Featuring classic tracks from everyone's favourite hard dance labels (Tidy, Nukleuz Black/Red, Tripoli, and more). It's driving, hard, aggressive, and something you may want to have in your car's CD player if you're a few minutes late for work.. :)

Take it easy until then!

---Dr Jekyll

The mix is now up here or access it directly on our podcast.

In addition to Mr Hyde's Post.. RE Scream 2006

Thanks Laurence for the objective view on this situation. It's nice to see among the slew of other (mostly negative) comments with regards to this.

There's been a lot of speculation regarding this incident lately. Let's slow down the momentum of the rumour mill a little bit here.

It's extremely unfortunate (that being the understatement of the century) that something like this happened at what was shaping up to be the greatest Scream ever. It's honestly disheartening when what is meant to be a peaceful gathering, is marred by a single asshole. In my 2 years promoting events, 5 years DJing, and the combined amount of time as an avid party-goer, this just as big a surprise to me as any.

I'd like to thank everyone that worked SO hard in their attempts to make this event something great. All headliners were in town; days were spent putting up lighting, lasers, decorations, and sound. From the flyering and promotional crews, to decorating (Asia, Tony, Jaime, Paul, Mike, Sarah, Dave, the place looked amazing) to concession, to building a door last minute to please the fire marshall (Well done Kevin!), to setting up fencing/tarps, the piles/hours of paperwork, the meetings, the DJs that threw it down (and the DJs that didn't get to throw it down, especially you Laurence, we were looking forward to that set more than anyone I think), everything. Not to forget the resilience of the people that were patiently waiting in line in the 'wonderful' Edmonton weather. Scream takes almost 6 months to prepare, and it only took a few individuals minutes to shut it down.

Believe me when I say that we do everything we can to keep these events safe. Edmonton Police Services are paid to be on site during the party, as are Alberta Paramedical Services. There are Capital Health officials running around with CO2 meters, making sure there is enough air flow into the venue. City of Edmonton Bylaw enforcers are on hand to ensure there are no infractions with regards to the rave bylaw, so on and so forth. And we've met all these groups head on, everytime. If it weren't for these precautions, that person would have most certainly died. Then again, the victim had been in that situation before apparently, as the paramedics noted scars from previous stab wounds. I feel some solace that this doesn't appear to be a completely random act of violence, however, this is something that doesn't belong at any party, ever.

Where did things go awry? The moment people start fingering the blame to the promotors, the staff, or even worse, interferring with the police officers and staff who are trying to do their jobs in wake of a serious crime. We would shut our event down for any of YOU in the same manor, YOUR lives are worth more than any party.

I think everyone needs to watch out for each other, and not in the cliche, fluffy, PLUR kinda way. Just out of common sense and courtesy for your fellow partier. No one benefits from a situation like this.
